We need your help!

We’re part of #SaveOurVenues, a nationwide campaign organised by the Music Venue Trust, it’s all about artists and fans coming together to prevent their local music venues from permanently closing.

Live music is part of the soul of the Steamboat Tavern and has been for many years, we want to ensure it will continue to be in the future.

We don’t know how long we will be closed and more importantly what restrictions will be placed upon us when we do finally open. Any help you can offer would be really appreciated during these challenging times.
Your donations will be used to cover ongoing overheads and help to ensure we’re ready with a packed line-up of great gigs for when we can hopefully open our doors to you all again.

We miss you (it’s far too quiet here), and hope to be back, bigger and stronger after this – we promise it’ll be the loudest & most raucous party in Ipswich!

Please share and spread the word!

Thank you, Andy & The Steamboat Crew x

Rugby, quizzes and live music

This month we’re all a bit excited about the Rugby.  No matter which team you support you have to admit for rugby fans the Six Nations is a big deal!  We’ll be showing Wales vs England here on Saturday 11th from 4.50pm.

This month we have all our regular monthly favourites.  You can test your wits against your friends or colleagues at the Quiz Night on either Tuesday 14th or Tuesday 28th.  Entry is only £2.50.  We’ve got some great gigs coming up this month (more on that in a moment) but if you want some slightly gentler music then you’re welcome to join us for Folk at the Boat on Thursday 23rd.  We also have an acoustic music night on Tuesday 21st.

As you probably know we’re proud of our food here at The Steamboat, and on Sunday 12th and Sunday 26th we’ll be hosting our popular Jazz lunches.  On Sunday 12th music comes from the brilliant Gipping Valley Stompers, and on Sunday 26th we have the great La Fontaine Ensemble providing the tunes.  Food is served from noon and the music starts around 2pm.

If you like your music a little (lot) louder then you might enjoy the gig we’ve got lined up on Friday 24th.  Live on stage we’ve got a new local band making their Ipswich debut – Telefünken.  Telefünken are made of of members of local ‘legends’ like The Ballsitics, ZEEB?, These Are End Times and Uncle Black.  Also playing that night are Bono and Paper Champ.

On Sunday 26th the mighty French band Burning Lady are stopping off here as a part of their tour.  Support on the night comes from local nautical heroes East Town Pirates and Smart Alex.

And that just about wraps up what’s going to be another great month here at The Steamboat Tavern.  See you soon!

2016 gigs, ales, food & films!

Firstly, Happy New Year from all of us at The Steamboat! We hope you had a great Christmas and New Year’s break. We brought in the New Year in style, with a packed house and the superb Red Flag 77, supported by Casual Nausea. If that gig was an indication of the coming year we’re in for a great 2016 of live music at The Steamboat.

The next gig is here already – this Friday night we have TV Smith back at The Boat! With support from London based punk ukulele band, The Pukes, and local guys Rampton Disco – it’s sure to be a great night.

Here’s a little tempter of a few of the bands confirmed to play in the coming months… keep a look out for Horse Party, 999, The Lurkers, Superglu, Red Flag 77, Dingus Khan, The Thinking Men and The Brackish Edge. Some brilliant acts coming up to see us through those cold, miserable months and into the summer!

We’ll have the usual bi-monthly jazz sessions on the second and last Sunday of each month from 2pm and Wax on the Waterfront makes a return on Sunday 7th February, after a short break over Christmas – ALWAYS a great way to spend your Sundays. We have also started a monthly film night – this month (21st) we will be showing the Tarantino classic True Romance. Please let us know suggestions of films you’d like to see at the Steamboat. Hot dogs, homemade popcorn and drinks offers will be available on the night!

In 2015 ale, cider and craft keg beers proved so popular we needed more pumps – so we now have another 2 hand pumps up and running and will be increasing our range of real ales and ciders. This means we need to keep sourcing new breweries and cider makers to keep the choice fresh and interesting. If there are any beers or ciders that you love and would want to see on our pumps feel free to call in, email us or drop us a message on Facebook or Twitter with your suggestions and we’ll do our best to get them in.

The new dishes on our food menu are going down a treat, if you haven’t already, why pop in and give them a try?! Homemade curries, spicy pulled pork and mozzarella panini, breaded lemon chicken escalope with garlic butter. Or just a warming bowl of homemade soup with a freshly baked roll. Yummy!

Once again, Happy New Year from The Steamboat crew and we look forward to seeing you very soon!
